I have never been a big scrapbooker, but I have always done a "baby book" for the first 3 years, and continual family photo books. With adoption they recommend a Life Book for the adopted child, which is like a scrapbook and tells the story of the child's life.
I bought some books, got all the photos we have received all printed out, and sat down to try to write. Where do you start for a three year old child who you have no idea of those first 2.5 years? I found myself scrambling around in my mind trying to figure it out... It is hard to start the baby's as well, but these are the questions we will be answering to them when they can vocalize their thoughts- what happened to my mom? I really pray that God can get those words out of me when the time comes! I will definitely be relying on HIM to fill in the blanks in the children's hearts, as I can not answer all those questions as we really just don't know, and what we do know obviously is not a beautiful story. What we know is that God chose for the children to be born, and chose US to be their parents. He has a reason for that, and we are just trying to figure it out day by day!
No one ever said this was supposed to be easy...
Write to them your heart. The story that led you to them and them to you. Write your longings and your dreams. The years ahead will give you more to put in, but this is a good place to start. For while they did not grow in your tummy, your heart still has a story for them.
