Last winter we made the decision to start an addition on our house. We had talked about doing it "in the future", and my goal of doing it now, rather than later, was so there were be more room for future kids permanent or temporary. It took awhile to get things drawn up, financed, permitted, and started, but it is now taking shape and should be finished sometime next month. Or so;)
I have been praying and researching and talking to people about foster parenting, and although I originally thought we would go the route of using a private agency for certification, after talking to the agency we have decided to go through the county. Informational meeting for the month already passed, so we have to wait until late October to attend and go from there.
This is very scarey, but yet I so feel that we are called to do this! Whether or not we get a child placed in our home anytime "soon", I feel we should be willing to give of ourselves in this way. I am hoping that the training will be helpful in not only preparing us for foster children, but also equip up with some good parenting techniques we can be putting into practice NOW. I feel challenged, and excited to take the next step. Praying hard for many aspects of this step, including preparing our children when the time comes. They all want a sister, so "more kids" is not something they are against, but a potential brother who may stay only months or years and then leave is not something they are thinking about right now... Praying for all of our hearts to be open to what God has in store!
