During our training classes they stressed that it wasn't a single person doing the fostering, but as s foster patent you were part of s team and everyone must work together. I can now wholly attest to that! Each and every person who I have worked with has been positive, helpful, courteous, encouraging, professional, and a whole list of good things! Here is a peek at what is normal for my schedule. You may see me out and about with my 5/6 kids looking like a normal family, but there is a lot that goes on unseen! I am not complaining. These people all have s purpose and as much as it sounds like a big pain, it is as painless as possible and the meetings and visits are all scheduled in accordance with my schedule for the most part.
Sunday- visit with bio mom
Monday- meeting with social worker and baby's lawyer followed by visit with bio dad (canceled at last minute)
Tuesday- visit with aunt (no show after waiting 20 minutes), followed by meeting with home based worker assigned to relieve my stress/ support me
Wednesday- meeting with baby's court appointed advocate. visit with bio dad, rescheduled
Thursday- visit with bio dad
Saturday- all day with aunt and uncle
So yes, it is a team effort!! Monthly we/I am to meet with social worker, lawyer, CASA, and home based worker. Visits with family are somewhere between 1-3 times a week on average depending on circumstances and frequently canceled!
But it is all worth it!! May there be a sweet ending to her life story... And may she not remember her chaotic beginning.
