This week the kids are on Spring Break, and Everett has still been on again/off again crying about our little one leaving us. I reached out to Aunt last week and asked if we could come for a visit and spend a few hours with her while we had free time, and she seemed to love the idea. I wanted to make it a surprise for the kids, but a few days ago Everett was crying about her again so I decided to tell him that we were actually SEEING her and this helped him.
We arrived to pick her up at her daycare when she woke up from nap, and although she was sleepy and confused, she obviously knew us and played musical arms. I packed her up in the car and drove to a nearby park/open field where I thought we could have some low key hang time playing and letting her warm up to us. While she was in the confines of her seat we Face Timed Scott, and she was pretty quiet still, but when we said goodbye she cried Dada!! with big tears. Sorry he had to be at work and miss the fun!
I brought some Easter eggs and a basket and the kids tossed the eggs around the field and she knew just what to do, and she snapped out of being sleepy and shy and started running around collecting eggs and being very excited! We opened them up and at the treats inside (mostly snacks like pretzels and Cheerios), and after she tossed around eggs some more we decided to go get ice cream, and head to a park with playground to play. I had no clue of the area, so just used my GPS to lead me to things, and it all worked out well. The boys found some kids to play football with for awhile, and girls mostly played with baby, but they would come over and check in and it was nice to just know she was THERE with us. We ended our visit going out for pizza where she very loudly thanked the waiter at least 20 times. THANK YOU THANK YOU, much clearer than 2 months ago when we last saw her! We all kissed her goodbye, and she screamed and cried when she went in the opposite direction with her Aunt but I saw she was over it by the time she reached her car. Parting was sweet sorrow- but I am sure glad we got to see her, and see that she loves us just as much as she did before!
There was a lot of emotion involved from the kids, not knowing exactly how to process it, and I will see how the next couple of days go to see if it was a bad idea to re-introduce her into our lives like that. It is a confusing thing to say the least, but Aunt said she is happy for her to see us anytime and she can use all the love she can get. Wish we were closer to slather her with love much more frequently!
