We were asked to take in a mom/daughter team for 12 days in October, and after meeting them last week I am looking forward to it. Mom seems very sweet and comfortable to be around, and she takes care of her daughter which doesn't make TOO much extra work for me. We will have the little one with us for one day first, as mom has something to do one day with her foster mom and it will be a good breaking in period.
But then we got a call about another teen mom on Tuesday, and this was an emergency placement that needed action stat (just the baby. Mom is 18 is not in care). I ran it by the kids in the room with me and all four enthusiastically said YES! I walked downstairs and asked Scott and was honestly expecting a NO, but he did what any good husband would do and said "What do YOU think?". So I said YES. A couple hours later lil' Z appears all curly and tired and hungry and sick (he came with fever, ear infection, and prescription for antibiotics). So I fed him, bathed him, gave him medicine, put him to bed, and he is such a joy! We were playing phone today and he picked it up and said "HI. I love you!" Oh my, such sweetness.
I met some bio family yesterday and there will be some work needed on my end to get them to trust me... Already lodging complaints about scratches on his head (he rubs his face a lot as has boogies and when he gets tired he plays in his hair and he came with long fingernails...) his diapers were the wrong size, his shoes were too small... I feel like I now I need to carry a notebook and record everything.
10:02 stood up under table and bumped head
12:26 turned around and walked into wall. bump on cheek
3:27 bent over and bumped head on toy jack in the box. mark on forehead
Aaargh. But his sweetness makes up for it:)
And yes, we are still taking in teen mom/daughter duo in a few weeks! BRING IT ON!
